This would be the "cut and run" strategy that we've been hearing the evil Democrats want to pursue. Oh, did I say Democrats? I meant the Bush administration, of course. Apparently, saying a lot of stuff about "staying the course" is more important than actually, you know, staying the course. Glad we've got that all cleared up.
I had not read the Washington Post article, but I am copying a comment I made to the Greetings from Qatar (http://brain.blogmosis.com/archives/2003_11_12.html). The comments were not well received, but apply to the Cut and Run Strategy
-------------------------
Nathan,
I admire your courage and dedication to your profession and I am grateful for all those that have gone on before you to insure my freedom. That being said, I would like to state that I have trouble with the philosophy of the people that encouraged your placement in Qatar. The Commander and Chief (C&C) sold this war based on Weapons of Mass Destruction, but you have no qualm with that lie and are content to view the action as part of the “Global War on Terror”. Granted Iraq is free and this action was something we should have completed as a result of the first Gulf War, but are you confident C&C is selling the right formulae. Have we discussed the ramifications of fighting this War? How does our C&C define terror? Are the actions that occur in Liberia and Rwanda terror? Or is terror defined, as “The American People are terrified that there will not be enough oil so that they can live in “freedom”. What if Iraq installs a democracy and the people vote to not sell the United States any oil. I think you know the US is ruthless enough not to let that happen.
Lets Play George Bush on Iraq strategy.
I believe with all my heart he wants Iraq to work out, but he has to have a get out of the grease strategy (scapegoat).
Strategy
He has the 78 billion in place to revive the infrastructure (especially the oil), so the campaign contributions to him and the Republicans are assured, with our tax dollars.
He will give control of the government to an Iraqi, who will have no financial control. (The goat).
The Iraqi will be in charge of the Iraqi security, but will not have direct support of the American Military.
The Americans will withdraw from the disputed areas to reduce American casualties. The C&C is confident in America’s inability to care about Iraqi deaths. He has to initiate troop withdrawal by April, in order to present a good showing for the upcoming elections. He cannot afford to let the military personnel become disillusioned, or it will start a watershed effect with his base of support. (He is also shoring up is base by going after abortion, as well as keeping a lid on John Ashcroft). Once Americans stop dying and the country (Baghdad) is no longer under control of an American, then the Corporate Controlled press will deem Iraqi deaths a non-story, and so will Americans.
I think with believers like you Nathan, Mr. Bush can be elected to a second term, so he can continue to destabilize the countries with Natural Resources we need to live like Kings.
2nd Term Strategy – In Brief, I will not give the reasons
Use North Korea’s Nuclear capability to further justify a Missile Defense System. The construction of the system will be used to move equipment and labor to Alaska.
Destabilize the internal politics of Saudi Arabia, through pumping Oil above quotas by Iraq (America left Baghdad, not the oil fields) and Russia. The Americans and Russia will propose Siberian Oil drilling and pipeline construction, by the end of the decade. The groups working on the Missile Defense system noted above will complete this work.
We will continue to export high paying jobs to India and China, so those governments can use those profits to buy American Military Hardware. (The only things that are still made in America). India will be used by America to provide a buffer from China getting aspirations about getting Mideast Oil. Indian people will want it’s Military to keep up with the perceived threat of Pakistan. Americans will prevent Pakistan from getting ideas about oil, because we will have permanent bases in Iraq and Afghanistan.
So thanks again Nathan, for allowing Americans to get the resources we need to live like Kings. I know this strategy will probably get me out the door in style, but what about future generations? Are you religious Nathan? If so do you think God wanted America to perpetuate the Way of Cain? Is your C&C a “wolf in sheep’s clothing?”
