Belle, I'm sorry, but this story is too good to be true. First, it sounds like the start of a comic book, where the villain is freed (from the KIRBY hospital, nota bene!) although clearly still insane (... or transferred to a low-security facility from which he will easily escape by eating the orderly's face).

Second, the Judge is Donna Mills!!! Apparently not the actress of the same age, unfortunatly, but even better! The NY Press calls her "Drunk- driving, cop-kicking paranoid judge" Check this out!

WHAT'S A CIRCUIT JUDGE DOING WITH A ROLLS-ROYCE???

Huh. That's the one insane murderer that (to my knowledge) I ever shook hands with.

Okey, Ray. Tell us the story.

My best friend in NYC was involved in homeless politics, and Rakowitz, although loony, was a dedicated volunteer. I was introduced to him at some point during the Tompkins Square Park battles, probably around the same time as the murder (and purported cannibalism) of his roommate (and not, so far as I heard at the time, girlfriend). That visit's police riot left a much deeper and lasting impression on me -- speaking figuratively, I'm glad to say -- but I see those contextual nightmares go unmentioned in the current coverage. History is written by the tabloids.

  • Confused by our comment policy?

We're testing a strong CC license as a form of troll repellant. Does that sound strange? Read this thread. (I know, it's long. Keep scrolling. Further. Further. Ah, there.) So basically, we figure trolls will recognize that selling coffee cups and t-shirts is the best revenge, and will keep away. If we're wrong about that, at least someone can still sell the cups and shirts. (Sigh.)
