Hm. Kirby, in the early 1970s, anthropomorphized Death as an implacable black man on skis. Gaiman, in the early 1990s, anthropomorphized Death as a winsome Goth girl, with no skis.

I wrote about his looking like every other Kirby character, I expressed puzzlement over Wolfson's comment, I dragged in panelogy and Scott McCloud and Understanding Comics, and a bunch of other stuff I no longer recall.
Well, of course I don't recall. It was last year.
