There's nothing like zoos outside the U.S. to get up close and personal with the animals. In Mexico, there are none of those fakey nice habitats for the animals...I never realized that zebras have such bad tartar.

I admit I was a little horrified at the zoo in Mexico even though the photo ops were great. I felt better when I returned a year later and the animals all seemed to be alive and healthy. But not that much better.

The orang-utans are very forbearing.

Just don't call them monkeys.

I went to the zoo in Mexico City many years ago but it was so packed with people we could hardly see anything. The worst zoo I've been to was outside the US, in St. Petersburg- a horrible animal prison of a zoo, w/ all black-top, cement, and iron "habitats", small, and the Russian equivalent of white trash throwing rocks and trash at them. Extremely depressing. It might be better now as they were scolded by the world zoo organization. The Bali one looks great, though. You should share a durian (SP?) fruit w/ the orangutans. I hear they love it.

Giraffes always make me feel envious with regard to their eyelashes.

  • Confused by our comment policy?

We're testing a strong CC license as a form of troll repellant. Does that sound strange? Read this thread. (I know, it's long. Keep scrolling. Further. Further. Ah, there.) So basically, we figure trolls will recognize that selling coffee cups and t-shirts is the best revenge, and will keep away. If we're wrong about that, at least someone can still sell the cups and shirts. (Sigh.)
