I was at the girls' school today to pick up Zoë (Violet is home sick but improving), and so I was looking at the decorations and bulletin board outside the kindergarten. Violet's teacher Miss Yolanda doesn't speak English very well. Nonetheless she helpfully posted a translation of a poem that the K2 kids have learned. Her heart is definitely in the right place, but I think she might have used google.
Goose, goose, goose
bend item sing to the day
white feather floats green water
the red palm clean up a wave batch
I am actually very happy that Violet is with Miss Yolanda, because she is learning much more Mandarin than otherwise. All the school's teachers have been brought in from Beijing so that the children will have good accents. The Singaporean Mandarin is deprecated, though I'm sure it's no worse than Singlish.
